Why Charlotte Pools Need Professional Maintenance

Charlotte’s climate creates specific challenges that make professional pool care essential rather than optional:

Extended Swim Season

Charlotte’s warm season runs roughly 7 months. That’s 30+ weeks of active chemical demand, biological growth, and equipment wear — significantly more than pools in northern climates. Even in the winter months, temperatures frequently get up into the 70s or higher, meaning that year-round weekly service can be the difference between a pool that stays clear and one that spirals into costly corrections.

Pollen & Debris Load

The Carolina piedmont’s heavy spring pollen and mature tree canopy put more organic matter into pools than most regions. This drives up chlorine demand and clogs filters faster. Our technicians adjust chemical dosing and filter cleaning frequency based on seasonal conditions — not a static schedule.

Summer Heat Spikes

When Charlotte hits 95°+ in July and August, water temperatures climb into the high 80s. That accelerates chlorine burn-off, promotes algae growth, and stresses equipment. Professional weekly service catches chemistry drift before it compounds.

Winter Doesn’t Mean Your Pool Stops Needing Care

Charlotte’s mild winters mean most homeowners keep their pools open year-round — and open pools need year-round attention. Water chemistry still shifts with temperature swings, heated spas require regular monitoring, and freeze protection systems need periodic inspection. Skipping winter maintenance leads to surface staining, equipment issues, and costly surprises come spring.

What Sets B&B Apart from Other Pool Services

In-House Team with Low Turnover

Every technician is a B&B employee. We treat our employees like family because we want them to treat you like family when they’re in your backyard. The same person will service your pool week after week, learn its quirks, and build continuity. When something looks off, they catch it — because you’re part of the family, and they know what normal looks like for your specific pool, and they care.

Full-Service Company

Unlike maintenance-only companies, B&B also designs, builds, and renovates pools. That means our team understands pool construction and equipment at an engineering level — not just surface cleaning. When a pump shows early signs of failure, we diagnose and repair it in-house.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I have my pool cleaned in Charlotte?

Weekly service is the standard for Charlotte pools. The combination of heat, pollen, and extended use means that going two weeks between visits often results in chemistry problems that cost more to correct than the service itself.

How much does pool maintenance cost in Charlotte?

Weekly pool maintenance in the Charlotte area typically ranges based on pool size, equipment complexity, and whether the pool has features like salt systems, water features, or spas that require additional attention. Contact us for a quote specific to your pool — we’ll assess your setup and provide straightforward pricing.

What’s included in your weekly pool service?

Every visit includes water chemistry testing and adjustment, surface skimming, vacuuming, brushing, basket emptying, filter inspection, and a full equipment check. We also provide a service report so you always know the state of your pool — even if you’re not home during the visit.

Do I need to be home for pool service?

No. Most of our Charlotte clients aren’t home during service visits. We just need reliable access to the pool area and equipment pad. We’ll leave a service report after each visit and contact you directly if we find anything that needs attention beyond routine maintenance.

What happens if you find a problem during maintenance?

Because B&B is a full-service pool company, we handle repairs in-house. If a technician finds a failing pump seal, a heater issue, or early signs of a leak, we proactively fix it (if it’s below our approval threshold) or quote it for repair (if it’s above the threshold). We do it this way because (1) most issues caught early during maintenance are far less expensive than those discovered after they’ve caused secondary damage and (2) it leads to the least amount of down-time and surprise issues with your pool or spa.

How does Charlotte’s pollen season affect pool care?

Charlotte’s pollen season (typically March through May) is one of the heaviest in the Southeast. Pollen clogs filters quickly, drives up chlorine demand, and creates a yellow film on the water surface. During peak pollen weeks, our technicians increase filter cleaning frequency and adjust chemical dosing to keep water balanced despite the added organic load. We also thoroughly brush and clean the waterline tile to avoid unsightly pollen stains on the tile.

Can I switch to bi-weekly pool maintenance?

From the beginning of pollen season to the end of leaf season, B&B does not offer a bi-weekly service plan. We do not believe bi-weekly service is in the best interest of your pool or your equipment during that time period due to bather load, organic matter (pollen, leaves, etc.), and heat. Because we treat your pool like it is our own, we only provide weekly service. We offer bi-weekly service from the time the leaves stop falling (early December) until the pollen starts falling (early March). However, the vast majority of our clients choose to maintain weekly service all year round because, unless the homeowner is diligent, equipment and chemistry issues can arise which cost significantly more to repair than the preventative service.
